I definitely recommend that anyone interested in woodcarving join the Wood Carving Illustrated Forums. The forum is full of information that will help you advance your woodcarving skills. The search function is awesome because just about any question you have has already been answered at some point on the forum.
Youtube is another great resource. Gene Messer and Carverswoodshop both have posted a lot of wonderful videos on carving. They both cover a lot of different things to carve, so you are not stuck just carving santas over and over again, Other woodcarvers that I like on youtube are 3Crosses Woodcarving and scottcarvings.
Websites that I really find useful are Out West Woodcarving outwestwoodcarving.blogspot.com and The Old Stump theoldstump.blogspot.com.
